As a new tradition in North Jutland, Greenland’s national day was celebrated once again in Aalborg Zoo. With the sun shining for the entire day, it was perfect for a fantastic schedule in Aalborg Zoo that included speeches, solemn hoisting of the Greenlandic flag, Erfalasorput, musical entertainment by the Greenlandic choir Ikinngutigiit and finally little tastes of Greenlandic delicacies. Around 1.000 visitors took part in the celebrations, who all seemed to enjoy the day and the entertainment on the national day in Aalborg Zoo. The day was ended with several barbeques being set up for general use of all visitors.
This years national day was however not only a day of festivities, but also a day marked by the natural disasters, which struck the settlement Nuugaatsiaq in North Greenland last Saturday. This also caused that Erfalasorput was flying at half-mast.
In parallel with the official schedule, Arctic Business Network hosted a network-meeting, where two presentations were held by the Arctic ambassador, Hanne Fugl Eskjær, and the CEO of the Greenlandic representation in Copenhagen, Lida Skifte Lennert, about their daily work. These presentations were followed by a panel debate focused on the topics “Capital, Competence and Capacity”, which also were this year’s topic at the Future Greenland conference, held in Nuuk in May.
