Greenland’s national day on June 21 was celebrated in Aalborg ZOO, which is a relatively new tradition that began in 2016.
The celebration of the day started in the Greenlandic House in Aalborg, which is one of the organizers – together with Aalborg ZOO and Royal Greenland. In the house at Vesterbro, there was a ´Open House´, tea and coffee was served, as well as the Erfalasorput were hoisted, with songs from the Ikinngutigiit choir. Afterwards, Otto Albrechtsen, chairman of the board of the Greenlandic House in Aalborg, gave a speech.
Aalborg ZOO was setting the framework for the celebration the rest of the day. In the ZOO there were among others, a speech by the party leader of the Social Democratic Party, Mette Frederiksen, who was invited to celebrate the day. In addition, there was entertainment, more speeches, tea, coffee and cake as well as Royal Greenland serving tastings of various delicacies. The day ended with the grill being started, where people enjoyed their food.
