A successful first seminar took place at the North Denmark EU-Office in Brussels on March 25th. The topic was Arctic shipping routes and the targeted audience was persons dealing with the Arctic in Brussels. Panelists were Josep A. Casanovas, who notably works with Arctic shipping in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), Simon C. Bergulf, Head of the Danish Shipowners Association’s Brussels Representation, and Nikulas Hannigan, Deputy Head of Mission at the Mission of Iceland to the European Union.
This gave a good overview of the topic through several perspectives: the European Commission, the business community and an Arctic state which moreover has a particular importance for Greenland’s development.
The meeting was moderated by Dr. Damien Degeorges, Head of EU Affairs at Arctic Consensus.
The North Denmark Arctic Dialogue will be held in Denmark on April 7th at the Danish Shipowners’ Association in Copenhagen. The next seminar in Brussels will be held before summer.
Josep A. Casanovas from the European Commission spoke about challenges by sailing in Arctic oceans.
